Frequently asked questions

Is an ECG enough to rule out heart disease?

A resting ECG is a screening tool. If suspicion remains high, further tests like echocardiography or a stress ECG are recommended — we coordinate referrals where indicated.

Why do I need spirometry with ECG?

Many patients with breathlessness have both airway and cardiac contribution. Spirometry helps quantify airflow obstruction and is essential before labelling breathlessness as 'cardiac'.

How long does the workup take?

Usually 30–45 minutes in the clinic including ECG, SpO₂ and spirometry, followed by the pulmonologist consultation.

Do I need to fast?

No fasting is needed for a resting ECG or spirometry. Avoid a heavy meal in the two hours before.

Is this workup part of pre-operative clearance?

Yes — it is a core component of pre-anaesthetic chest clearance for elective surgery in older patients or those with respiratory history.
