Frequently asked questions

Is snoring always sleep apnea?

No, but loud persistent snoring — especially with witnessed pauses, gasping or daytime sleepiness — needs a sleep study to rule out OSA.

Home sleep study or in-lab polysomnography?

Home sleep tests are appropriate for high-probability, otherwise healthy adults. In-lab polysomnography is preferred in cardiac, neuromuscular or complex cases.

Is CPAP for life?

CPAP is usually long-term but often reversible with major weight loss, positional therapy or surgical correction in selected patients.

Will CPAP be uncomfortable?

Most patients adapt within 1–2 weeks with correct mask fit, humidifier settings and pressure ramp. Compliance data is reviewed at follow-up to fine-tune settings.

Does untreated sleep apnea affect the heart?

Yes. Untreated moderate–severe OSA is linked to resistant hypertension, atrial fibrillation, coronary disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes.
