Frequently asked questions

How long do post-COVID symptoms last?

Most mild cases recover within 4–6 weeks. Moderate–severe cases with lung involvement may take 3–6 months of structured follow-up. Persistent symptoms beyond that need dedicated evaluation.

Do I need a repeat HRCT?

Not routinely. Repeat imaging is planned only when there is clinical deterioration or a specific question — needless repeats add radiation without benefit.

Is pulmonary rehabilitation useful?

Yes. Structured breathing exercises, graded aerobic activity and inspiratory-muscle training significantly improve exercise tolerance and quality of life after COVID.

When can I stop home oxygen?

When your resting SpO₂ is consistently ≥94% on room air and you do not desaturate below 90% during a supervised 6-minute walk.

Are steroids still needed months after COVID?

Only in a minority with ongoing organising pneumonia or active inflammation on imaging. Prolonged unsupervised steroid use carries its own risks and is best tapered under a pulmonologist.
